I am part of all that I have met….
Tho’ much is taken, much abides; and tho’
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
- Alfred Lord Tennyson’s “Ulysses,”
These words epitomize a feeling I believe is common to all of us who by fate were grouped
together by our transcendental intellectual exposure at the College of Medicine ,
Lagos Idi-Araba between 1980 and 1985. We were called as you recall GREAT!!
(As in Great
Physicians! Great Dentists! Great Pharmacists! ..) at a time when the significance,
responsibility attached to those rallying calls could not have been fully
appreciated by our
fledgling minds. We strived, survived, lived up to our charge and more,
and have individually
continued to blaze trails in various areas of Professional,
Intellectual, Enterprise and
Humanitarian endeavors. It is time to come together again,
to give thanks to God, our Teachers
and Significant people in our lives. To celebrate, reminisce and reconnect to one
another, with the
goal of channeling the energy and resources we collectively
have, towards creating a legacy for
our alma mater and the "GREAT ONE’S" of the future some of whom are already in our families.
